Conference on 'Western Ghats Conservation and Human Welfare'
- Title:
‘Western Ghats Conservation and Human Welfare’
Venue: National Institute of Advanced Sciences,
Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bangalore
Date: September 22nd-24th, 2003
Conference Coordinator: Dr. Ranjit Daniels
Conference Secretary: Mr. Johann Solomon
ABOUT
THE CONFERENCE
The
Conference on ‘Western Ghats Conservation and Human Welfare’
will mark a new era of conservation in the Western Ghats region.
The Conference is set to bring together important stakeholders
actively involved in conservation activities in the Western Ghats.
As the Western Ghats form one of the most extensive biodiversity
reserves in the country, with nation wide programmes concurrently
executed in the region (like Project Elephant, Project Tiger,
NBSAP etc) the conference would serve the purpose of uniting such
efforts before a common audience and help in eliciting involvement
from organizations across different spheres (regions/areas/expertise).
This would also facilitate greater exchange and sharing of information
between institutions besides establishing a platform for future
interaction. Such interaction with similar institutions and likeminded
professionals help in stimulating new ideas, concepts and strategies,
which is imperative to achieve greater conservation results.
The conference is being organized by the Western
Ghats Forum and will be held at the National Institute of Advanced
Sciences (NIAS), Bangalore from the 22nd –24th September
2003. Participation to the conference is by invitation only.
Objectives
The objectives of this
conference are
1. To identify gaps to achieve desirable conservation outcomes.
2. Discuss emerging priorities
3. Outline future strategies and programmes.
4. Launch the Western Ghats Forum
